At this time of year some water treatment chemicals will freeze very easily. For example 39% strength sodium hydroxide is likely to freeze at +10oC, some other products also freeze so ensure you store your drums of chemicals somewhere protected from frost and low temperatures. If your sodium hydroxide does freeze then put it somewhere warm for a while then give it a good shake to mix it before use.

If you store water treatment chemicals on your site you should consider some basic rules: do not mix hazards (keep acids and alkalis separate as an example), consider bunding liquids (bunds should hold 110% of the volume stored in them), do you need frost protection (for example caustic can freeze at +10 o C), ensure the area is well ventillated and make sure you have a chemical spill kit plus any PPE to hand.
